Our cook, Junar Basnet's children coming for a visit at the Kathmandu Guest House. They both really need sponsors for school if anyone is interested. Both kids are bright and eager to learn but it's impossible for Junar to provide them with a good education at the school prices in Kathmandu.

We are looking for sponsors for both children.

Kiran with his son, Santos. Santos isn't able to speak properly, so is behind many levels in school. He recently was sponsored by one of our Ladakh trekkers, Marian, to get an operation for a cleft palate, but we discovered that it was only nerve damage and he only needs speach therapy. He is now going a few times per week to see a therapist.

Ang Nuru, Lhakpa Kanchi & Phura Tashi

Ang Nuru is a guide in the Everest region who is unable to afford schooling in Kathmandu for his son. At the local schools he won't be able to get an education that will give him a better future. We are looking for a sponsor for his schooling.

Out for a cup of tea in Monjo Village, Nimalee & Pema Zangmu come from very poor families, are extremely bright and cheerful, and really need sponsors for school. Project Himalaya & the Kamzang Fund both provide some basic expenses and some clothing for the girls while at school in Monjo, and Jim Wolfe, an Everest trekker with Project Himalaya, also contributes to their education ...

Pema Zangmu is now in Kathmandu with a school sponsor, but we are still looking for a sponsor for Nimalee.

Dawa Yangi Sherpa & Kim ...

At Monjo school with friends. Dawa Yangi had to return to her village school to help her mother, who is a single mom and doesn't have any means of support. Monjo school finishes at Class 7 (this year) and Dawa Yangi really wants to continue school Khumjung, one of the Edmund Hillary schools, a good one. Her sister is pictured above (Nimalee). Project Himalaya & the Kamzang Fund both provide some basic funding and some clothing for Dawa Yangi, but she'll not be able to continue school after this year if we don't find a sponsor for her.

Dawa Yangi now has a sponsor, Steve, from our last Sherpa Christmas trek and will be going to one of the Hillary schools, either in Khumjung or in Charikharka.

Phura Diki & her auntie at Boudhanath Stupa, Kathmandu. Phura Diki, one of the brightest kids from Monjo School, now has two sponsors, Camilla & David, both previous Project Himalaya trekkers (to the Everest region, where they met Phura Diki), who fully pay her school tuition and boarding in Kathmandu. She now finishes at the top of her school, and speaks almost fluent English. Her sister Pema Zangmu is pictured above ...

Palki (the Headmistress), Singge & Kim at the Himalayan Buddhist School in Manali where Singge now goes to school.
He now has sponsorship from Sunish, a previous Project Himalayan trekker, but still needs medical attention. Joel & Kim of Project Himalaya look after him in India. He's now doing great at school, and is much healthier than back at his small village in remote Zanskar.

Nyima Lhamo & Temba with their kids, Jamphael & Cherring Lhamo ...
Nyima Lhamo & Temba are good friends of ours, struggling to make ends meet in the Tibetan refugee settlement in Manali, Himachel Pradesh. Cherring Lhamo & Jamphael both now goes to the Tibetan Childrens' Village (school). Jamphael has support from Sunish (see above), and Cherring Lhamo gets a bit from the Tibetan Government in Exile, but it's not much, and she could use help for clothes, book, etc. She's incredibly bright, an all-around wonderful girl.

Jamphael was born with a cleft palate, and after several operations paid for by Project Himalaya trekkers Don & Sylvia, who came out to travel to southern India with Jamphael and his parents, is still not able to speak and desperately needs speach therapy. He is in a special education class at TCV, and now supported by Sunish, but has a long way to go ...

Nuru Sherpa ...

Lhakpa Doma & Lhakpa Dorji with their son, Nuru. Lhakpa is a Sherpa guide for Project Himalaya, and has a hard time affording a good school for Nuru in Kathmandu where schooling is very expensive. Nuru is one of the top students in his present school, incredibly talented and intelligent, but really needs support for his education at a higher level so that he can fully realize his capabilities. He's one of the most mature, bright and cheerful Sherpa kids that I have met ...

Nuru is now sponsored for his schooling in Kathmandu by a previous trekker, Jennelle.

Lhakpa's nieces, Lhakpa Zangmu and her cousin in the small hamlet of Mende, on the way out to Thame valley ...

Lhakpa, his mother, sister, brother in law and three nieces. These girls go to a local school, which doesn't provide a very good education (and just goes to Class 3), and desperately need support to enable them to get a good education either at one of the Hillary Schools in Khumjung or Charikarka or in Kathmandu ...

Lhakpa's mother and her grand-daughters at the family's winter home, Mende ... The two older girls have received help from previous trekkers, Tom & Jim, but are still looking for school sponsors.

The Kamzang Fund & Project Himalaya sponsor (or help find sponsors) for many children from the Everest region, Ladakh & Zanskar. 100% of money donated goes to the children. Unfortuately, we are not a non-profit INGO, so you can't write off your donation, but this is why there is absolutely no money taken from our end. We only act as middlemen(women).
